Tuners, or Machines Heads, are a key component in tuning stability. There are two main type of tuner:

🔓 Non-locking are standard tuners for which the string wraps around the post of tuner to hold it in place.

🔐 Locking tuners have a thumb wheel which is used to pinch the string in place inside the tuner post. This means that the string isn't wound around the post. Due to the reduced string length, the tuning stability is improved. This is most noticeable on tremolo equipped guitars.

In our opinion, locking tuners are a must for guitars with tremolos. They also make changing string much quicker and easier. Here's what is included with each of our guitar lines:

Here's what Wilkinson say:

"Contemporary flat sided mini button with sealed housing. 6-in-line. E-Z-LOK™ Designed to work on guitars of all styles E-Z-Lok™ machineheads are the ultimate in the quest for perfect tuning stability. Unlike ordinary tuners, each E-Z-Lok post has two holes. This simple concept transforms each tuner into the tuner you want it to be. Want to string conventionally? Then OK, do it! Want to change the tension over the nut? OK, use the upper hole to decrease the tension, use the lower hole to increase the tension. Want to stay in tune when using a Vibrato/Tremolo system? Then OK, you can do this too. Eliminating the wraps around a tuner post is a must do when using a vibrato system.Thread the string through either the top or bottom hole, pull the string tight and make a wrap around the post then thread the remaining string through the second hole. Pull tight again and you now have a locking tuning key."

These tuners are great value and unrivalled at this price point.

Here's what Hipshot say:

"If you're a fan of the straight traditional buttoned up look, our Classic Closed Guitar Tuner has you covered. Very smooth and precise action will have you wondering how you ever kept your guitar in tune without it. 15:1 gear ratio for finer tuning"

Here's what Hipshot say:

"The ultimate in security and ease of setup, our Grip-Lock™ tuning machines remove the labor of string changes while improving your tuning stability.
Simply pull the string through the hole and tighten the thumb-wheel. A small pin inside the string post will grip your string and lock it in place. Spend more time playing and less time playing out of tune!"

A great quality locking tuner, offers extremely quick string changes and tuning stability. We would recommend these in conjunction with a tremolo.
